Auld Lang Syne....Good Bye 2014

Wow where did the year go?  In two days we will be done with a Even year and dealing with the Odd and unknown...2015 please be good.

I have grown a lot this year I think personally and in my art.

Personally because I have finally realized that I deserve to be happy and enjoy my life, which in turn allow me to enjoy my art , which I hope in turn will allow me to earn a living as a Artist.

So my wish (Hey I am a Fairy Godmother) is that  all of you learn to appreciate your life, the gifts you have been given , let your soul breathe and grow and to walk a path full of happy treasures.

What are you doing for the Holidays....???

How many of you are running around crazy trying to figure everything out?

WHY???   its not worth, stress will kill you and buy does that ruin a good day.

So first off take some deep breaths , blow them out slow and think happy thoughts.

Now you know the best thing you can do , commit an act of kindness...

See a little old lady trying to get her groceries in the car, help her.

See a young mom trying to open a door and get her children inside, help her.

See a little boy standing all alone?  Help him...give him a smile make eye contact say hello.

So many things we can do every day to make others happy and in turn our very own Happy Meter will go off the charts.  and it doesn't cost anything but a small moment of your time.

Give a homeless person a set of gloves, hat and scarf, Dollar tree stuff is great ...maybe a cup of hat coffee and a sandwich.  They don't want to be homeless , circumstances beyond their control.  It could be you tomorrow.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!!!

If you have a roof over your head, food in your fridge, someone to love you ...you are blessed so many ways and more...

How do wishes come true? because of Me and you!

This used to be a thought I carried as a child...How do Wishes come true?  When I would share the snap of the wish bone with my beloved grandmother, or close my eyes and wish with every fiber of my body on a shooting star, or look for the elusive (today) four leaf clover to bring me luck.

But every one has wishes, some extravagant , a fancy car, very nice clothes, a fancy dinner waiting for them after a long day of work.

Me I have simple wishes...Money to put gas in my car, a job I make enough money I can afford to have a place on my own, my sweet puppy who passed away last week to still be with me, well that one is not simple.

People to understand who I really am...oh you say who am I ? Well I am a creative soul who loves to make things ....ART...with her hands and her heart...and to sell that Art to people to enlighten their lives or the lives of their friends and family.   I love to design pieces that will make people smile, and to think about the special people in their lives, and what would make them happy.   Gee Whiz , Dad will absolutely love that 400th blue tie with red polka dots...or Aunt Sue loves when you give her fig preserves (Not she has hated them since the second jar you gave her) so she hides them in the pantry and either yearly throws away the old ones or re-gifts them to the mailman who now also hates Fig Preserves.

So you see when I received the nick name of Fairy Godmother it was because in my small  way I can make wishes come true...not for myself but for others.

Like the little girl when I owned my bead store, she was sent to me by other small business people who knew if anyone could make her wish come true ...I could.   What was her wish, her mother and her were on their first trip to the Outer Banks and she was wanted a Shell Locket to put their picture in to remind them of this very special trip.  I took a whole scallop shell, separated it , added a leather hinge, wired it with a loop and she got her locket.  my reward ? not the 5.00 I charged...but the sheer joy and happiness that flowed from that little girl.

I did and do this on a regular basis...last year I gave away to a little girl a beaded amulet bag I could see she really loved it and understood how special it was, her parents wouldn't buy it for her , even at a fraction of what I had it priced.  I am not telling you this to get a AWWwwwwwwwww  how nice, I am telling you this to inspire you to help people make wishes come true.

Yes I know its the Christmas season ...and many people turn ? Nice ? this time of the year , but don't people need  smiles and nice things and wishes come true  all year long.  I know I do ...my wish , my one major wish is that people understand that I am a Working Artist , that wants to create my art , sell it , so I can create more...and in the process live in a nice small place with my pup, have food on the table and gas in the car.  I don't want to be rich, just comfortable.

So please if you are shopping this year for family , friends or even unknown surprises support small businesses and start with me.

Life is never Easy , but a Little White Dog made it better for a while

Over two years ago my daughter . against my wishes brought home a fourth dog,,,this little naked white dog , she had been shaved to save her from the filth of the puppy mill she was rescued from...stole my heart and soul from the moment she looked at me.  She came with the name Snowflake , but snowflakes melt at the beach so I renamed her Sweet Pea to honor my dad's nickname and what My Beloved John called me.

We spent the last 2 plus years being inseparable ...her , JW , my bulldog boy and me .

This past Thursday we found out she had inoperable cancer , Friday night she passed away in my arms.

I just wrote the following piece to share with my friends on Facebook and thought I would share it on my blog.

There are things I rarely share with everyone...because I don't want to be judged ...only one can do that...But as Much as I Love God and worship Him I worship all that He created in this world , So quite a few years ago my spiritual path took me down the path of My Cherokee roots(Yes there is proof) I learned a lot shared a lot and experienced wonderful things still do. and that is where this is leading too....White animals are healers and teachers...I have visioned a White wolf who travels with me as my teacher, a white Otter who reminds me to enjoy life and do what I need to be happy ...and over two years ago a Little White Dog came into my life and saved my soul and my life. I named her Sweet Pea ,,,she needed me as much as I needed her, we rescued each other...She healed my broken heart from losing John 3 years earlier with her unconditional love and her funny little ways. I healed the pain she suffered in the puppy mill and taught her what love and a warm bed and snuggles and good food was all about. Even tho once again my heart is breaking I know we both had a great time and she will always be with me....Wadv Little White Dog. Love your Mama

What do I love to Create, How I do it...and the good that comes from it ...

I am now offering the opportunity to take some fun Art Quilting Classes either in small groups or Individual , for a very reasonable fee.  I have many techniques I have developed over my last 41 plus years of sewing, creating with fabrics and making art to sell  email me at fairygodmotherarts1@gmail.com

Ok here is another one of my stories .. I started sewing when I was 10 yrs old the only place to buy fabric was the GC Murphy in old town Alexandria at that time...so my granma would buy me some there but taught me how to recycle.  Then one day they built a new mall ...and in it was the most glorious place called Minnesota Fabrics*    well I started cutting lawns for fabric money...and they would put remnant bags together for 1.00 I am talking a BIG Huge bag of fabric...I would buy every one and then go through them and create whatever....it was so much fun....miss those days...when I got married the price had gone up to 2.00 but I worked so I would buy them as many as I could..but just didn't seem to use it all, even though I made lots of clothes for our children, curtains , pillows, quilts etc.

One day after a few years of living in our house my husband (yes that one) went into the attic and saw over 30 trash bags full of fabric and demanded I get rid of them, reluctantly we put them out to a yard sale (thinking would make some money to buy more) but I only sold a few pieces and was trying to figure out what to do with them , since they were not allowed back in the house.  A Priest pulled up to the yard sale in a yellow VW Bug, came over and was looking at all the bags of fabric.  He asked how much, I asked him what was he needing it for ....he said the church ladies made quilts for aids babies and other children.  I told him he could have it all...a look of disbelief on his face and a Are you kidding?  which sounded funny coming from a Priest...we helped him stuff about 5 bags in his car and he said he would be back later for the rest...he and the ladies came back and loaded up their cars.  A few months later I saw him and he told me they made over 150 quilts from those bags so far...can you imagine 150 happy children from something I had saved ...my stash became a God Stash,,,,A few years ago I made a pact with myself to only buy 1/4 yard pieces from now on unless truly special ...and I have done pretty good...except for when people clean their stashes out and give them to me....have a blessed day and always look for the silver lame lining to our stashes

* I still shop there when I go to visit my mom , it is now Hancock fabrics, and when I learned to drive and got a car I would go  to Hollin Hall Variety a local five and dime that had the best "Quilting" fabric collection around then.     Hollin Hall Variety , one of the funnest places to go

I love to create with anything and everything ....I like to do what I call Rustic hand sewing...sort of a not so perfect applique and quilting.  Don't get me wrong , I am in awe of the people who do the sophisticated  intricate applique quilts with a gazillion pieces and is literally a masterpiece when done and then they throw it on a bed.   I wonder how many actually make it being on beds...??? hmmmmmm.

Right now I am trying to get back to doing embroidery  free form ,,, I have all of my inspirational books by Judith Baker Montano , I just added her "Free  form Embroidery "  to that collection, I just want a few years to sit down and do it all, that is not too much to ask.

Her work and techniques are so intriguing , you can help but walk in to them and become a part of it.

Update : April 2014 I moved back   to Alexandria, where I was born and raised as well as all my family on my mom's side.

I am now available to teach my skills to other in workshops and sell my art work in the Northern Virginia area by appointment or local art and craft shows.

Well have a Blessed day and  Create   Imagine   Just Believe and DO.

Why I create (my new name Lorri Lee Glennon)

My photo
Hobbsville, North Carolina, United States
Having been a artist literally all my life, I love color and dimension.I learned to sew at age 10 , by age 13 started a stuffed animal business, which grew into a collectable Teddy Bear Business for 15 + years. I opened my own bead store specializing in Spontaneous Creation classes and love to teach everyone they could be creative and open the door to their imagination.I recently returned to one of my favorite art forms taking photographs my father gave me my first camera when I was a child and I have loved photography ever since. I took professional family portraits and weddings for the first 5 years living in the Outer Banks, I am now shooting Family portraits again and sharing my love of the Outer Banks through my blogs. Be creative, walk in faith and never give up....It all happens in God's time
